EMPLOYMENT AT PIEDMONT HOUSE
Piedmont House welcomes applications for employment for both full and part-time positions. The position of Resident Counselor is described below and followed by an application form. The application should be delivered in person to Piedmont House, 1800 Monticello Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22903, although it may be faxed to FAX No. (434) 971-5951 or emailed as an attachement to piedmonthouseinc@yahoo.com All applications should be addressed to the Director of Operations.
POSITION DESCRIPTION, DUTIES AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF RESIDENT COUNSELOR
Resident Counselors report directly to the Supervisor of Operations or, when required, to the Director of Operations. Resident Counselors have direct oversight and responsibility for Residents enrolled in Piedmont House and must comply with policy, procedures and directives.
Responsibilities
- Arrive no later than five minutes prior to beginning of assigned shift. Review necessary information with Resident Counselor being relieved to insure full knowledge of necessary information to assume duties in a knowledgeable fashion. Make appropriate inspections and notations in Log Book.
- Read log book and insure all Residents are accounted for and any medical conditions or security concerns are known.
- Perform a Resident Count and room check every two hours. Conduct more frequent visual checks if needed for unusual circumstances or ill residents.
- Turn off all lights, fans, and TV’s if not in use. Conserve electricity at all times.
- Keep thermostat at 70 degrees in cold weather and AC at 70 in warm weather.
- Keep filing cabinets locked. Lock office door when leaving office and leave desk lamp on and take a cellular telephone when leaving the office.
- Use all office or other equipment for official use only.
- Answer all telephone calls in a polite and professional manner with greetings such as, “Piedmont House, May I help you?” Take incoming calls on office phone. Residents are not to use the office phone for personal calls.
- Monitor resident sign in / sign out book. Audit sign out book to verify residents are within approved time frames for passes, furloughs, curfew, work and other appointments. Occasionally call sign-out location to verify a resident’s whereabouts.
- Monitor sign-in and sing-out of visitor log and oversee visitors during visiting hours. House rules prohibit visiting in the parking lot.
- Issue house supplies as needed.
- Administer medication as directed on the bottle and log on medication chart.
- Administer alcohol and drug testing and log results in drug test log. Report all positive drug or alcohol tests in writing through the Supervisor of Operations to the Director of Operations.
- Manage resident chores and initial the chore list when completed.
- Document behavior violations to the Director of Operations.
- Be familiar with procedures for fire drills.
- Have desk and office neat and clean before your relief arrives.
- Sign out on payroll sheet.
- Reserve catered food deliveries for those not present for evening meal.
- Turn exterior lights at daylight.
- Make furlough contacts and notes in the log book.
- Follow all policies and procedures in crisis situations.
- Attend staff meetings when required.
- Report all Department of Corrections, Board of Directors or other official contacts with law enforcement to the Director of Operations through the Supervisor of Operations.
- Report any traffic or criminal violation arrests immediately to the Director of Operations through the Supervisor of Operations.
- Do not develop personal relations with any Resident during the Resident’s stay at Piedmont House and do not request or perform personal services for Residents.
- Maintain up-to-date certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Complete tasks as assigned by the Supervisor of Operations or the Director of Operations.
Minimum Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
- Must submit to a criminal and traffic background check and be of good character.
- Submit to drug testing.
- Must independently obtain and maintain Basic First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Must comply with other training requirements as directed by the Director of Operations or designee.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to follow direction.
- Ability to write legibly.
- Ability to work independently.
- Accept other duties as assigned.
